Brayden at Home
Dan and I are trying to take pictures of Brayden every day, since we know he will grow very, very fast. Here are some of our favorites!
Welcome Home Brayden
Well, it seems I am a terrible blogger! No posts for months and months! But the good news is that Brayden is here! My official due date was August 8th, but that date came and went, and in true Rowan/Demers fashion, Brayden showed no signs of leaving the womb. Unfortunately, my usual doctor was on vacation the week of the 8th, and so I saw a different doctor who is more of an "interventionist." He scheduled me for an ultrasound on August 12th to make sure the baby was okay AND for an induction on August 16th! I thought, whoa there, doc, can't we just wait until the baby is ready? The doctor assured me and Dan that the ultrasound would probably be fine and that the baby would probably arrive on his own before that date.
Do Dan and I went in for the ultrasound on the 12th at 10 am. As the doctor suggested, we brought our bags with us "just in case" things didn't look good on the ultrasound and we had to stay. And it turned out we had to stay. Brayden's amniotic fluid was a 3.6, and the passing level is a 5. When the fluid is too low, the placenta doesn't work as well. The doctors suggested that induction was the way to go and the safest for the baby. While I was upset by the idea of an induction, Dan was really excited because it meant that we were going to get to meet our baby. I was excited, too, but I knew, however, that an induction meant hours and hours of labor (possibly 18-20 hours), and I wasn't looking forward to that at all.
Once we were checked in and settled in a room, the induction process began . . . and went on and on and on . . . I had a variety of different induction methods between Friday afternoon and Saturday night. In the early hours on Sunday morning, I was finally given Pitocin. The Pitocin took a while to work, but when it did, things really got moving. And finally, finally, finally, Brayden arrived at 9:59 am on Sunday August 14th. And we were very excited to meet him.
Both sets of Grandparents and Aunt Katie and Uncle Matt visited us in the hospital.
And now Dan and I are just enjoying our time at home with him.
